Setting up mail apps (IMAP, SMTP and JMAP)
Mailocity works with any mail app: phone and desktop apps over IMAP and SMTP, and newer apps over JMAP.
Where to find your settings
In webmail, open Settings (the gear at the top). The first card, Mail apps, lists everything a mail app asks for, with your username already filled in and a Copy button next to each value.
Most apps need only your address and password: they find the rest themselves (Thunderbird and others read the autoconfig file, JMAP apps read /.well-known/jmap).
The settings
| Server | Port | Security | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Incoming mail (IMAP) | the server name shown in Mail apps | 993 | SSL/TLS |
| Outgoing mail (SMTP) | the same | 465 | SSL/TLS |
| or, if your app or network needs it | the same | 587 | STARTTLS |
| Filters (ManageSieve) | the same | 4190 | STARTTLS |
- Username: your full email address, such as
bob@example.com. - Password: your Mailocity password. With two-step sign-in on, or when you sign in with Zappocity, make an app password in Settings and use that instead; the card says when you need one.
- Authentication: "Normal password" (PLAIN over the encrypted connection).
What the IMAP server supports
Besides IMAP4rev2, the server speaks the extensions phone and desktop apps use to stay quick on slow connections:
- QRESYNC and CONDSTORE: an app that was offline asks only for what changed since it last looked (new flags, and which messages were deleted) instead of reloading the folder. Deletions are remembered for 30 days; an app away longer gets its folder checked in full.
- COMPRESS=DEFLATE: the connection is compressed after sign-in.
- QUOTA: apps show how much of your plan's storage you use.
- ACL and Other Users: mailboxes teammates share with you appear under Other Users (see Sharing).
JMAP apps
JMAP apps ask for a session URL, or just your address and the server:
- Session URL:
https://<server>/jmap/session(shown in the card). - Discovery:
https://<server>/.well-known/jmap; apps that look it up need only your address. - WebSocket:
wss://<server>/jmap/ws, for apps that use JMAP over WebSocket. - Username and password: as above (HTTP Basic). Scripts can use a mailbox token instead (
Authorization: Bearer cs_mt_...).
What JMAP supports, and how apps stay in sync, is in JMAP.
Calendar and contacts apps
The same card has the CalDAV and CardDAV settings for calendar and contacts apps; see Calendar and contacts apps.
For developers
GET /api/mail/client-settings (webmail session) returns the same values as JSON; see api/webmail.yaml.
