Automatic mail and the notice address
The server sends some mail by itself: invitations, links to confirm a recovery address or reset a password, and security notices.
Where it comes from
Set the notice address in the admin panel under Settings → Notice sender (or noticeFrom and noticeName in PATCH /v1/settings, or corpsuite settings set noticeFrom=noreply@mailo.city). All automatic mail then comes from that address, such as "Mailocity" <noreply@mailo.city>.
- It must be on a domain hosted on this server, usually a shared domain such as
mailo.city, so the mail is DKIM-signed with that domain's key and passes DMARC. Make sure the domain has an active DKIM key. - It must not be anyone's mailbox or alias, and while it is set nobody can create one with it. Its name (
noreply) is added to the reserved names, so nobody can sign up with it on any shared domain either. - It has no inbox: mail sent to it is refused. Automatic mail goes out with an empty return path and
Auto-Submitted: auto-generated, so bounces and auto-replies do not come back.
Without a notice address, each message comes from no-reply@ the user's own domain instead, signed with that domain's key.
The welcome email
Under Settings → Welcome email you can switch on a welcome message for everyone who signs themselves up (with or without an invitation), and edit its subject and text. It goes to their new mailbox from the notice address. Write plain text; these are filled in:
| Placeholder | Becomes |
|---|---|
{name} | the name they gave, or their address |
{address} | their new address |
{webmail} | the link to webmail |
Accounts you or a tenant create through the panel or the API do not get it. From the API: welcomeEnabled, welcomeSubject and welcomeBody in PATCH /v1/settings.
Invitations by email
When making an invitation, you or a user can enter the invited person's address and the server sends them the link from the notice address. A user's invitation names them ("Amy (amy@example.com) invited you…"). The operator's invitations need the notice address, because they belong to no user's domain. See Invitations.
Teams can have their own welcome message, sent from the same address to their new members in place of the platform's; see Team administration.
