Reactions to email
Like Outlook and Gmail, webmail lets you react to a message with an emoji instead of writing a reply: ๐, โค๏ธ, ๐, ๐ฎ, ๐ข or ๐.
Reacting
Open the message and choose ๐+ under its date, then an emoji. You have one reaction per message: choosing another replaces it, and choosing the same one again (or its highlighted chip) takes it back. Each emoji shows as a chip with how many reacted; hover over it to see who.
In a mailbox shared with you, you react as that mailbox when you may send as it.
What others see
Your reaction is sent, like a reply to all, to the message's sender and its other recipients, as a reaction message (RFC 9078):
- In Mailocity, Gmail, and other mail that supports reactions, it shows on the message reacted to, not as a new message.
- Elsewhere it arrives as a short message holding just the emoji.
Reactions you receive are kept as messages too (marked $reaction, so they stay readable in any mail app), but webmail leaves them out of your folders and shows them on the message they react to.
