Contacts
Open Contacts with the address-book button at the top of webmail.
- New contact takes a name, email addresses and phone numbers (one per line), a company and notes. Click a contact to change or delete it.
- Search finds contacts by any part of their name or email address.
- Every account has two address books: Contacts, where new contacts go, and Collected, which fills itself with the people you write to who are not already contacts. You can move a contact between them.
- On an open message, Add … to contacts starts a new contact with the sender's name and address.
Team address books
Your team can own address books, such as Suppliers or Customers, that everyone on the team sees: in webmail's Contacts (marked (team)), in contacts apps over CardDAV, and in the team's JMAP account (teamAccountId in the webmail session). They stay when the person who made them leaves.
- The team's owners and admins make them in the team manager (Team address books on the team page), with
corpsuite tenant address-book add, or through/v1/tenants/{tenantId}/address-books. - For each book, choose what members may do: read its contacts, or add and change them too. Owners and admins always may.
- Add the contacts in webmail (pick the team book in Address book), in a contacts app, or over JMAP. A member who may only read sees the contact without Save or Delete.
Photos
Add photo on a contact takes a picture from your computer, cropped to a square and made small (256 pixels) so it fits in the contact. The photo shows next to the contact and as the sender's picture in your message list, ahead of a company's verified logo (BIMI). Remove takes it off. Contacts apps sync photos both ways over CardDAV. Only JPEG, PNG, GIF and WebP photos kept in the contact are shown; photos that are links to other sites are not loaded.
Groups
New group makes a group: a name and the contacts in it (tick them in the list; the search box narrows it). Type the group's name in To, Cc or Bcc and pick it to add everyone in it at once, each with their first email address. Deleting a group keeps the people in it.
Groups sync with contacts apps over CardDAV. They are written the way Apple's Contacts writes them (X-ADDRESSBOOKSERVER-KIND:group), with KIND:group and MEMBER for others, and either form is read.
Address completion
When you type in To, Cc or Bcc, matching contacts appear under the field after two letters. Use the arrow keys and Enter (or Tab), or click, to pick one; the address goes in as "Name" <address>, ready for the next.
Mail apps and the API
Contacts are stored with JMAP for Contacts (RFC 9610) as JSContact cards (RFC 9553): AddressBook/get and ContactCard/get, /query (filters inAddressBook, text, email) and /set. A contact is in exactly one address book; cards are kept as sent, up to 256 KB each and 50,000 per account. A photo is the card's media of kind photo; a group has kind: "group" and members. Updates replace whole top-level properties (no deeper patches yet). Contacts apps sync over CardDAV, with a read-only team directory: see Calendar and contacts apps.
Not yet
- Address books of your own beyond Contacts and Collected in webmail (apps can make them over CardDAV), and the team directory in webmail (contacts apps have it).
